Diani Beach
Diani Beach is located 30 kilometres south of Mombasa, in the nearby Kwale County. It has been voted Africa's best beach destination for the fifth time running since 2015. The beach is about 17 kilometres long, from the Kongo river to the north and Galu beach to the south. The indigenous people of the area are Digo, one of the nine ethnic communities known as the Mijikenda.
There is plenty to do in and around Diani, water or not related. You can take a day trip to Wasini Island to look for dolphins and sea turtles or a small fishermen’s dhow to the Diani's sandbank. Go a bit deeper into the ocean and dive with one of the PADI certified diving companies or a bit higher in the air with your kite surf and windsurf. On land, guided walks through sacred forests, a monkey sanctuary, a turtle information center and a trip to Shimba Hills, the only coastal national park that is home to the endangered Sable Antelope, are some of the many options waiting to be explored.
